Dialang
Language learning through short videos. My own product, taken from zero to 9,000 users.
( The result )
9,000
users in 3 months
140
paying premium subscribers in 3 months
4.9★
user rating

( 01 )The problem
Chechen, Ingush and Arabic have almost no modern learning apps. As co-founder I also wanted to prove that a product can go from an idea to paying users, which is exactly the path my clients are on.
( 02 )What I did
Product
- I scoped the product and chose the business model, freemium with 5 free lessons followed by a monthly subscription.
- I ran the content strategy on social media, which brought more than 500k views.
Design
- I designed the whole app, from onboarding to the review sessions.
Build
- A Flutter app with short video lessons, dialogue breakdowns and a spaced repetition engine for reviews.
- A local cache with Hive, audio and video playback, Firebase Messaging and Crashlytics.
- Three environments and release builds that take a single command, all covered by 27 tests.

( 04 )The hard parts
- Spaced repetition that stays correct offline. The schedule has to keep working without a connection and then sync without losing progress.
- Video on cheap phones. Most of the audience does not own a flagship device.
- Selling a subscription in a niche market. Every subscriber had to be earned one by one.
( 05 )The outcome
In three months Dialang reached 9,000 users, 140 paying subscribers and a 4.9★ rating, with more than 500k views on social media. I’ve been where you are, with a budget, a launch date and the wait for the first paying user.
( 06 )Stack
- Flutter
- Firebase
- Hive
- REST API
