( 01 )The problem

Kevin knew exactly what he wanted. One app for daily practice, charity and the local mosque, and a launch date he could not miss. The agencies he talked to quoted months. He needed the full product on both stores within weeks, with a backend he could trust with real money.

( 02 )What I did

Design

  • I designed the flows and screens from the brand guidelines and built the design system directly in Flutter, so every screen stays consistent.

V1 in 3 weeks

  • Onboarding, login, daily goals, a dhikr counter, a duas library, Quran, hadith, a quiz, streaks and “Ajr” rewards, notifications, profile, settings and analytics. That is more than 20 features, organised as 22 modules in the code.

V2 in 1.5 weeks

  • Donations to projects through Stripe, one time or recurring, with in-app purchase on iOS.
  • Mosque profiles with their own onboarding, an admin dashboard for each mosque, followers and push notifications to them, prayer times, donation receipts including tax receipts for several countries, and impact tracking.

Backend

  • Everything runs on Supabase. A Postgres schema with 120 migrations, row level security and 18 edge functions that handle Stripe Connect onboarding, payments, subscriptions, webhooks, receipts, push and the quiz engine.

Launch

  • I published the app on the App Store and Google Play, with store listings in 11 languages (FR, EN, DE, NL, TR, ID, MS, RU, AR, UR, BN).

( 04 )The hard parts

  • Stripe Connect for mosques. Each mosque receives its own donations, while Apple still requires in-app purchase on iOS. The two payment systems had to live side by side without confusing anyone.
  • Eleven languages from day one. Translation was part of the architecture from the start instead of being added later.
  • A V1 with no shortcuts to pay back. V2 shipped a week and a half later on the same codebase, with no rewrite.

( 05 )The outcome

Apple and Google both approved the app on the first submission. It passed 250 users in its first week and 700k views on social media, and mosques in France and abroad use it today.

( 06 )Stack

  • Supabase

  • In-App Purchase
